How to Prevent Pet Accidents

Tips to make your pet odor removal last longer!

Customers often ask us what can be done to prevent pet issues. Here are some simple tips that can help prevent future accidents:

Walking your dog

Walking your dog (or at least letting them outside) frequently goes a long way towards preventing indoor accidents.

Pee Pads

Consider laying out pee pads. These pads, while unattractive, are great when you’re not at home. Leave these in trouble areas and you’ll often find your dog doing their business on the pad. Dispose of the pad, replace with new and your life just got a lot easier!

Positive Reinforcement

This is almost as important as walking your dog – in fact, they go hand-in-hand) or in this case, paw!). Let your dog know that he or she is doing the right thing when they do their business on a walk or when you’re letting them outside.

Don’t yell!

Yelling at your dog or cat is not a solution. In fact, your pet has no idea why you’re yelling at them and this will in no way help prevent future accidents from happening.

Treat Stains Immediately

If an accident does happen try to remedy it immediately until your next scheduled cleaning. One simple solution for odor would be a mix of vinegar and water. Mix at 50%, pour over the area, and blot dry with a towel. Mix dishwashing detergent and baking soda for stain lifting. Or simply call Higher Standards Carpet Cleaning Today!
